bio

Dan was born in New York City. He began playing piano as a teenager, studying jazz piano with jazz greats Jaki Byard (who performed with The Charlie Mingus Group), Don Friedman, and Hod O’Brien. Dan studied classical theory and composition at Queens College in New York.
In the early 1980's he performed with many jazz groups in Boston. Dan then relocated to the Big Apple and was the musical theater director of the Off-Off Broadway Castillo Theater in New York (1993-2001) where he arranged music for over 20 productions, led a small pit band, wrote scores for three original musicals, and performed on the original cast recording of Sally and Tom: The American Way.
Here in the Valley, Dan has been performing jazz with saxophonist Steve Kurtz for over ten years and is as well the keyboard player for the local jazz and groove group The Free Range Cats. To mix it up he also plays keys with Southern Voice, a pop country band out of Connecticut and used to perform with the Motown group The Soul Sensations.
